Kurzfassung:

Goal of this practical course is to investigate based on findings in the literature to which extend it is possible to extract professional interests from social media.

Lernziele:

The student will be enabled to conduct scientific research work and development tasks in a group of peer students. The students learn to discuss and solve a problem independently, develop their own ideas, implement, and evaluate them.

Lehrinhalte:

Social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Blogs are widely used today. Among many others, also technology innovators and researchers are using social media as platform for disseminating their thoughts and publishing about recent developments. Since then it is known that social media streams provide a valuable source in order to learn about someone's professional interests.

Goal of this practical course is to investigate based on findings in the literature to which extend it is possible to extract professional interests from social media. At the beginning, selected results from the literature will be given. Based on these, different methods (e.g. bag-of-words-based and entity-based) are applied to extract professional interests from social media data such as Twitter. The student team will implement the methods and evaluate them. By this, we want to replicate the results reported in the literature. As bonus, we aim at extending the achievements of the existing literature and to improve the State of the Art results.

Weitere Voraussetzungen:

Programming skills such as object-oriented programming. Knowledge about Semantic Web and Linked Open Data is an advantage.

Prüfungsleistung:

Individual assessment of project results and oral exam.

Learning material to start with will be provided at the beginning of the course.

Verwendbarkeit:

The acquired knowledge and skills can be applied for a Masters thesis.
