Basic knowledge in description and construction of digital systems
After studying this module the student should be able to analize, design and optimize simple digital circuits. Furthermore, the interaction of all building blocks of a simple RISC processor will be unterstood. In particular, the student knows what kind of switching events occur when the processor executes a machine instruction. With respect to methodology, the principle of abstraction in different levels of hardware design is explained.
The following areas are discussed: Number systems and number representation in computers, digital systems, MOS transistor, CMOS technology, CMOS gates, combinatorial circuits, flipflops, sequential circuits, ALU, memory, DLX-processor, assembler;
