Kurzfassung:

This module is about cryptographic schemes such as public-key encryption and digital signatures, how security for such systems is best defined, and what security means from a practical point of view.

Lernziele:

Students become acquainted with fundamental cryptographic constructions, understand what it means for such constructions to provide security in a strict sense, and are thus enabled to deploy cryptographic constructions in the right fashion.

Lehrinhalte:

  • possibilistic, information-theoretical, and algorithmic security
  • block cryptosystems
  • symmetric and asymmetric encryption
  • hash functions
  • MAC's and digital signatures
  • security models and proofs (reductions)

Weitere Voraussetzungen:

Prüfungsleistung:

Combined written-oral exam. The examinee is first asked to solve a small problem in writing; an oral exam follows starting from this.

Lehr- und Lernmethoden:

Presentations by lecturer, problem-solving sessions, reading sessions, discussions in class, self- and group-study components: reading, writing, problem solving.
